BANTER began rocking the Northeast United States in the late 1990s, hitting famous stages from Boston`s Middle East to New York`s CBGB`s and
Providence`s Living Room, releasing 2 CDs, the Side One EP and the full-length Urban Pastures. Lead Banter man Dan Sheehan moved the band from Boston to New York City in 2002, and the band played it`s most recent Boston shows in 2004 with Sheehan putting the group on a long hiatus while focusing on his successful solo project, The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy. Sheehan and drummer Joe Smith performed at the Red Gorilla Festival in Austin during South By Southwest in 2009 and 2010 will see the band`s return to its hometown of Boston with the classic lineup of Sheehan, Smith, Jeff G and Doogie.
Banter has performed with such legendary Boston bands as Star Ghost Dog, Hip Tanaka, Boy Wonder, The Ape Hangers, Wide Iris, Woody, Sona Nyl, Top Heavy, the list goes on. Banter has graced the stages of existing Boston venues The Middle East, TT the Bear`s, OBrien`s, The Green Dragon and The Midway Cafe, as well has having performed at legendary Boston venues of yore including Mama Kin`s, The Linwood, The Kendall Cafe, Sky Bar, The Causeway and more.
The Banter classic "Springtime in February" was called "the unofficial theme song of Central Square, de facto capital of the Boston music scene" by NOISE columnists Butch & Brenda. Banter`s music has been played on local stations WAAF, WBCN, WMLN, and WERS, to name a few.
