Since September 1998, the Operators have been working 'round the clock to bring high-quality, lo-fidelity, mid-tempo indie pop to the greater Boston region and beyond. Originally a trio, the group became a foursome with the addition of guitarst/drummer/bottle thrower Stephanie Melikian in 1999. Since then, Steph, along with guitarist Emily Arkin, drummer Paul Coleman and bassist Jen Godfrey have been seen gigging in clubs on the hip side of the river, as well as the occasional out-of-town venue.

2000 was busy for the Ops-- they recorded and released their first 7" single, I Accuse the Operators; they performed with the likes of Bangs, Sarah Dougher, Prettypony and Cambridge's own Mr. Airplane Man and Mishima; they went to Ladyfest in Olympia, WA, and took notes, and got invited to the Rockrgrl 2000 conference in Seattle. A full-length CD, a summer tour, and Ladyfest East are all in the works for 2001, so watch out!

The Operators are part of the Handstand Command musical/artistic collective, along with punk rockers the Anchormen, porn-rockers Scrapple, Paul's solo project, Sinkcharmer, Jef Czekaj's solo vehicle the Tardy, and the Handstand Command Supra-group, the Shut Ups.
