Mixing sultry power with gentle grit, SuperHoney embodies the 'sthetics of vintage soul without resorting to clichΘ retro stylings. Ken Capobianco of the Boston TAB proclaims SuperHoney "as one of the best Boston bands of the late 1990s....and as a live band, frankly, very few acts in this town can even touch them, and that is saying something." The recognition is widespread, capped by a coveted nomination as Best Live Band at the prestigious 2000 Boston Music Awards. While the essence of SuperHoney is best captured in their emotive live performances, their calling card has been the effusive -- yet dynamic -- vocal delivery of Joanie Pimentel. Drawing comparisons to Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin, Joanie has won broad critical acclaim for her extraordinary vocal talent -- including two Boston Music Award nominations for Best Female Vocalist (2000 and 1999). Steve Morse, noted music critic from the Boston Globe, calls Joanie "one of Boston's best-kept secrets....she can really dig deep for some of the most unchained vocals in town." SuperHoney's second independent release -- entitled "No Standing"-- features the innate song writing skills of the band and the unbridled energy of their live performances. Critics and fans alike have found plenty to celebrate, from the acoustic soul-ballad "It All Depends," to the live rocker "Swatty," to Bill Wither's 70's classic "Use Me." And their broad and expansive fan-base has responded strongly -- packing venues throughout the Northeast and buying 6,500 CD's in the past year alone. SuperHoney's ambitious touring pace of 150 shows a year -- spanning territory from Montreal to Key West -- has further helped cement their claim as a top live attraction. SuperHoney has earned the attention of the Godfather of Funk himself: George Clinton, who -- after witnessing the band's percolating groove -- invited the band to "sit-in" with his P-Funk All-Stars at his Boston shows. SuperHoney has supported Maceo Parker, Groove Collective, The Grey Boy All-Stars, The Tom Tom Club -- featuring former members of The Talking Heads -- and recently collaborated with the multi-platinum group the Average White Band for the soundtrack to the New York indie-film Greenmind. The band's moniker also made a cameo appearance on two episodes of MTV's Real World. Last September, SuperHoney topped hundreds of bands throughout North America in CDnow's Best Unsigned Band contest.
