Amanda Carr grew up singing and playing rock and pop in Boston area nightclubs, but with big band parents, she eventually came to love singing this exciting music and added it to her multi-styled performances and repertoire. In 1997, She became known as the voice in the clever Jordan’s Furniture commercials and received New England notoriety after her swinging rendition of “Don’t Sit Under the Apple tree” in the “Jordan’s Swings” commercial became ingrained in regional pop culture.   After joining musical forces with drummer/bandleader Kenny Hadley and the rhythm section of his big band in 2001, they recorded 2 successful small group CD’s, “Tender Trap” (’05) and “Soon” (’07), which catapulted to #2 on Amazon’s jazz charts after a stunning review in the Wall Street Journal.  It wasn’t long before Kenny took his award winning 16-piece big band out of mothballs and they together recorded and released “Common Thread” in October of ‘09 which is still receiving solid airplay and stellar reviews.The band is stocked with seasoned veterans of extended tours and recordings with Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Maynard Fergusen and Count Basie. In early February, this star-packed CD hit the Billboard Charts off the heels of yet another full length story in the Wall Street Journal by Nat Hentoff who says of Amanda, “She’s a true jazz singer in a time of wannabees.”  This may be true, but as well as swinging hard, Amanda and Kenny can also rock the house.
