Back in 1952, Jack and Josephine Darcy decided to open up a bar in the basement of their home at Pemberton Point in Hull. ‘The Pemberton Marina’ soon became the hotspot for locals and the enlisted members of the Coast Guard, stationed at neighboring Point Allerton Station. Later named ‘Jo’s Nautical Bar,’ Jack Darcy, the Town Clerk in Hull, and his wife, Josephine’s rustic basement remains an institution in Hull to this day.
Later purchased by Mike McDevitt and Stephanie Aprea in 2004, the Darcy’s legacy continues. The stone walls, covered with decades of memorabilia, tell stories of years gone by. Voted ‘Best Bar in Hull’ by the Patriot Ledger People’s Choice Awards for several years running, Jo’s Nautical Bar plays host to locals and tourists and offers some of the best live music on the south shore.
