Since 1995, Dispatch has been writing, performing and recording a style of music that refuses to be pinned down. During their
explosive live performances, the three members of the band trade instruments while moving between acoustic and electric sets. Their
music finds its roots in regg', rock, and funk, creating a sound that has at times been likened to Sublime, Ben Harper and The Police.
By feeding off each other s varying styles percussive jams, improvised raps, intricate harmonies they create an energy onstage that is
rarely seen elsewhere. Based out of Boston, Dispatch (formerly known as One Fell Swoop) has just released its third independent
CD, Four-Day Trials. In four days, November 19-22 of last year, they inadvertently laid down enough material for a full-length album.
The music may best be described as a self-branded style of tri-vocal funk-coustic instrument-swap groove. Concentrating on tight,
three-part harmonies and rhythmic breakdowns, all three members bring diverse songwriting styles to the band. All of the members
can sing and play guitar at the same time. They write songs that have words and also music.
The members of Dispatch, Brad Corrigan, Pete Heimbold and Chad Urmston, met in college in Vermont, and soon built their local
popularity into a nationwide following. Their music has been played on small radio stations in places like Martha s Vineyard, Mass., in
a handful of bigger markets like Philadelphia s Y100, Denver s 96.5 and Nashville s WRLT, and in giant venues such as McNichol s
Arena during the NHL s Colorado Avalanche games.
Their debut CD, silent steeples, released on their own label, Bomber Records, showcases the band s acoustic strength. The band then
produced an impressive, fully plugged-in follow-up, Bang Bang (Bomber), and total CD sales are approaching 10,000.
Four-Day Trials was released on February 25, 1999, and is selling fast. The tracks may serve as grist for future recording projects. In
the meantime Dispatch has embarked on an ambitious tour that will take them around the country during 1999. Boston s Middle East
club is consistently packed when the band is there, and they are becoming a favorite at the Wetlands in New York City. Even with
three solid independent recordings behind them, Dispatch continues to be known for their live performances. The energy they bring to
the stage each night ensures that no show will be the same. From show to show and from album to album, Dispatch keeps their fans
guessing what they re going to do next.
