Mixing one part funk, one part groove, and a dash of jazz fusion, HoneyPot from New Orleans has created a tasty musical gumbo that they are unleashing upon the national music scene. With an evolving, large underground grassroots following from the under-water world of hypnotic groove jams to the rocky, hippy-trick fusion scene, HP provides an elaborate array of flavors, constantly mixing up and adding to their undefined collage of musical bliss. It is not surprising that each member of HP has brought his own unique musical background to the group. While keyboardist Joshua Gold and bassist Will Langford were getting their education in the clubs of New Orleans, drummer Matt Taylor was gigging around New England, learning the ropes from legendary Fringe veteran, Bob Gullotti. And in the meantime, guitarist Dave Diamond was playing in Vermont with saxophonist Dave Grippo, who was alternatively doing his own thing, and gigging and recording with Phish. The road has been fruitful for HoneyPot giving them the opportunity to play with such bands as Liquid Soul, Strangefolk, Stir Fried, Runaway Truck Ramp, Re-Birth, and Iris May Tango. And recently, the band has been invited to play at the High Sierra Music Festival in California, joining Los Lobos, Dr . John, Leftover Salmon, The Radiators, Keller Williams, The Yonder Mountain String Band, Deep Banana Blackout, The Slip, Astral Project, Dr. Didg, and many more. As so many improvisational bands have discovered, capturing the inspirational sound of their live shows on a studio album has been troublesome. HP, however, has proven otherwise. Producer Carlo Nuccio (Tori Amos, New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars, Continental Drifters, Royal Fingerbowl) put the band in the studio and let them play, tapping into the essence of the band, their almost telepathic ability to play off of one another. The result, AquaSox, containing tracks with HP guests ?Mean? Willie Green (Neville Brothers, Grateful Dead), Rene Coman (Iguanas), and Kofi Baker (son of Ginger from Cream), is an elaborate, intricate, and gritty aural bouquet.
