The Enemy is a five-piece, self-produced screamo/power-pop/sex-rock outfit from Lincoln, RI that just used three hyphens in one sentence. Ryan Gharaee (Vocals, Guitar) Matt Jablecki (Guitar, Vocals) Chris Cardin (Screams) Joe Marcotte (Bass Guitar) and Nick Fyfe (Drums) are friends first, and a band second. Ryan, Matt, Nick, and Joe actually played together as a band for nearly two years before asking friend Chris to join on vocals in April of 2005. Originally known as Best Kept Secret, the foursome had played out on a regular basis in basements and at various small clubs throughout Rhode Island, with only a few large engagements ever coming their way, like winning the Rolling Stone / Got Milk? Battle of the Bands at the Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. With only 20 shows under their belt, Best Kept Secret decided it was time for change. Granted, they didn’t know what they wanted to change, or why, but they ended up changing their name and asking one of their best friends to join the band. So, in April of 2005, with Chris now a member, The Enemy entered the studio to record an EP on their own. Recorded for free at Emerson College’s radio station in Boston (88.9 FM WERS) the EP was scrapped in favor of a demo they ended up recording in Chris’s garage a week later. With the demo in hand, The Enemy took to the streets, promoting their June 2005 performances at The Living Room and Lupo’s at The Strand, in Providence, RI. Both shows were huge milestones for The Enemy, who are now looking to continue bringing their music to the Rhode Island music scene, in hopes of not only building a solid local fan base, but garnering regional and national attention as well.
